U.S. Women’s Water Polo Returns to International Play with Win Over Germany

LA JOLLA, Calif. USA, July 1. IN its first international foray since last summer’s Olympic Games in Athens, the United States women’s water polo team posted an 11-5 victory over Germany on Thursday. The win arrived in the preliminary round of the FINA World League Series.

Holding a two-goal advantage at halftime, the United States opened a sizable lead by outscoring Germany, 3-0, during the third quarter. Kelly Rulon and Drue Wawrzynski scored twice each for the host nation, and Brenda Villa also found the net twice. Single goals were scored by Lauren Wenger, Erika Figge and Heather Petri. Emily Feher was credited with 12 saves.
