U.S. President Barack Obama Tweets Congrats to Diana Nyad

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 2. IT may or may not have been the man himself, but it is pretty impressive that open water superstar Diana Nyad drew a congratulatory tweet from U.S. President Barack Obama today, considering he has his hands full with a civil war in Syria.

Today, shortly after Nyad became the first person to ever swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark tank assist, President Obama posted the following tweet.

Congratulations to @DianaNyad. Never give up on your dreams.— Barack Obama (@BarackObama) September 2, 2013

That’s huge praise for Nyad as the tweet already has generated nearly 5,000 retweets — a gigantic number in social media.

Earlier today, in her fifth attempt, Nyad made history by completing the trek from Cuba to Florida in just more than 50 hours in what turned out to be a 110-mile odyssey. The swimming community exploded on social media with joy once she managed to complete the task.
