IRVINE, California, August 4. NBAC's Michael Phelps put together an exciting finish in the men's 200 free by clipping fellow superstar Daytona Beach's Ryan Lochte at the wall of the U.S. Long Course Nationals.

Phelps clocked a strong time of 1:45.61, while Lochte finished second in 1:45.78. The times gave the U.S. the first and second rankings in the world ahead of Germany's Paul Biedermann. Biedermann is the only other 1:45 of the year with a now third-ranked 1:45.84 from the German Nationals in July.

Club Wolverine's Peter Vanderkaay (1:46.84) and Longhorn's Ricky Berens (1:47.09) secured the rest of the men's 800 free relay spot at Pan Pacs with third and fourth-place finishes. Vanderkaay moved up from sixth in the world to fifth with the performance, while Berens is now among the top 10.

Lake Forest's Conor Dwyer (1:47.35), Longhorn's David Walters (1:47.78), Snow's Matt McLean (1:48.20) and New South's Scot Robison (1:49.45) completed the rest of the championship field.
