U.S. Junior Long Course Nationals: Nicholas Caldwell Downs Meet Record in 400 Free

IRVINE, California, August 11. THE U.S. Junior Long Course Nationals kept moving right along with another meet record on the third day of competition.

Sarasota Y's Nicholas Caldwell crushed the meet record in the men's 400 free with a 3:52.32 during prelims. That swim far surpassed the 3:55.19 set by Jason Taylor in 2008. Caldwell returned in the evening to grab the junior title in 3:52.88. Badger's Ryan Feeley placed second overall in 3:54.85, while Mission Viejo's Jan Daniec earned third in 3:55.61. Peddie's Connor Signorin also cleared 3:56 with a fourth-place 3:55.84.

Terrapins' Chelsea Chenault captured the women's 400 free crown with a 4:11.37, just a second back of the meet record set by Lauren Driscoll (4:10.37) last year. Parkland's Gillian Ryan finished second in the middle distance event with a 4:13.25, while Jewish Community's Leah Smith snared third in 4:16.69.

Palo Alto Stanford's Jasmine Tosky, who put on a show at the senior nationals a week ago, topped the women's 100 fly with a 59.43 for the win. Express' Haley Sims clinched second-place honors in 1:00.08, while City of Midland's Natalie Hinds touched third in 1:01.12.

City of Plano's Seth Stubblefield touched out North Aquatics' Kyler Vanswol, 54.51 to 54.56, for the men's 100 fly victory. SwimMAC's Kip Darmody finished third in 54.65, while Great Lakes' Will Hamilton (54.83) and Class' Chase Bloch (54.98) also cleard 55 seconds.

Dynamo's Matias Koski, John Lane, Jacob Stephens and Evan Browning snagged the men's 800 free relay title in 7:34.65.
