TYR Swim Meet of Champions Rolls On

MISSION VIEJO, California, June 17. ACTION continued in Mission Viejo at the TYR Swim Meet of Champions. Several young performers stepped up as well as some seasoned veterans in Saturday’s events.

Australia’s Ashley McCleery demonstrated more of her freestyle strength in the women’s 200 freestyle winning in 2:01.43. Brent Hayden (UBC Dolphins) was the sole competitor under the 1:50 barrier on the men’s side. He finished in 1:49.03 over Australia’s Nick Ffrost, 1:50.15.

Japan dominated the 200 breaststroke for the women with a close race between Yuumi Murakami 2:29.48 and Rie Kaneto 2:29.57. On the men’s side, another close race came down to the finish between Japan’s Ryo Tateishi and Australia’s Brenton Rickard. Tateishi out-touched Rickard with a time of 2:15.49 over Rickard’s 2:15.53.

Lacey Nyemeyer from Ford Aquatics won the women’s 50 free in 26.00. Nick Brunelli was the only swimmer under 23 en route to winning the men's race in 22.75.

Santa Barbara Swim Club standout Adrienne Binder dominated the field with a 4:49.41 piercing through the 4:50 barrier in the 400 IM. For the men, Ous Mellouli handled his race with poise winning in a comfortable 4:24.00, over two seconds ahead of the field.
