Tulane Steamrolls Arkansas-Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas, October 6. THE Green Wave posted top times in all 11 swimming events and half of the diving elevations as the Tulane University swimming and diving team opened the 2012-13 season with a commanding 154.5-69.5 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday at the Donaghey Center Natatorium.

Four individuals posted marks that rank in the Tulane record book as freshman Mia Schachter's time of 1:06.58 in the 100 breast ranks as the fourth-best individual time, junior diver Sadie Eicher's 221.84 in the one-meter springboard is the seventh overall score, freshman Roni Meyer's mark of 10:35.36 in the 1000 free ranks as the No. 9 individual time and freshman Elizabeth Cook's 58.72 showing in the 100 back is the No. 10 individual mark.

“The team's performance today was further evidence that we are a new team with a new attitude,” Tulane interim swimming and diving coach T.J. Natal said. “We showed up as an unproven, unknown team and we left as a proven team led by the leadership of our upperclassmen. We swam with confidence and pride in all of our events and it was reflected in our results.

“I am obviously proud of the overall result of the meet, but I am most impressed with the way we prepared and our execution. From the first event to the last event, we kept our focus and preformed as a unified team. We are happy but not satisfied.”

Schachter, Meyer and junior Rachel Ranson each won a pair of events. In addition to her performance in the 100 breast, Schachter also emerged victorious in the 100 fly with a time of 59.22. Meyer added a 5:10.74 performance in the 500 free win to her top performance in the 1000 free, and Ranson won both the 100 and 200 free with respective times of 53.03 and 1:56.45.
