Trevisan Is Smokin’, as 11 Masters Records Fall in Four Hours

By Jeff Roddin

BETHESDA, Maryland, April 24. A few weekends ago,
the Montgomery Ancient Mariners hosted the 11th annual Albatross Open (SCM) in Bethesda, Maryland.

While it didn't have 700+ swimmers like they did in New England, the Albatross Open saw five different swimmers set a total of 11 individual USMS and/or FINA Masters world records within the span of the four-hour single day meet. With approximately 190 swimmers, the Albatross was the largest meet south of New England, east of Kentucky and north of Virginia 🙂

Fifty-one year-old Paul Trevisan, 1776, accounted for two incredible world marks, as he blasted Rich Abrahams' "unapproachable" 50-54 world marks in the freestyle sprints. Trevisan touched in 24.81 for the 50, and 55.49 for the 100 meters.

Records in the 45-49 age group were batrtered like a Caribbean island in a hurricane. Fritz Lehman bettered all three backstroke world marks in the men's 45-49 division. The North Carolina Masters ace clocked 28.40 for the 50, 1:00.09 for the 100 and 2:13.36 for the 200.

The Ancient Mariners' Lisa Van Pelt-Diller almost matched Fritz's performance in the women's 45-49 dorsal events. She stroked to new global marks in the 50 (32.65) and 100m back (1:09.98).

The 1776 club's Greg Oxley notched two world and an additional American record in the 45-49 age group. The versatile Oxley clocked 2:31.41 in the 200m breast, 1:02.79 in the 100m IM and scored a national mark with his 24.82 in the 50 free.

The Ancient Mariners' Clay Britt swam a superb world record for men 40-44 of 58.28 in the 100m back.
