Top International Swimmers On Display in Second Day of Pan Pacific Invitational

STANFORD, California, June 24. THE second day of long course meter competition concluded at the 2007 Pan Pacific Invitational held in Stanford, Calif., from June 23-24 with some of the top international swimmers in the world competing.

Women's 100 freestyle
California's Emily Silver held off an Australian horde of women's sprinters with a time of 55.56. Meanwhile, five Aussies went 2-3-4-5-6 in the event. Cate Campbell, 15, (55.61), Shayne Reese (55.63), Meagen Nay (55.92), Kelly Stubbins (55.98) and Danni Miatke (56.10) owned the rest of the top six.

Men's 200 freestyle
The Aussies swept the top three in the men's 200 free. Nic Donald touched first in 1:51.91, while Reece Turner (1:53.87) and Stephen Parkes (1:55.44) finished second and third, respectively.

Men's 100 breaststroke
Brenton Rickard led another Australian domination. Rickard hit the wall in 1:02.15, while James Stacey (1:03.86), Robert McDonald (1:03.95) and Luke Trickett (1:04.31) placed second, third and fourth, respectively.

Women's 400 IM
Japan's Izumi Kato, 17, picked up the win in the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:53.23. Americans Meghan Leddy (4:57.17) and Cammile Adams (5:04.26) wound up in second and third place.

Men's 100 butterfly
Australia's Matt Targett put up a top 15 time in the world this year when he won in 52.34 to finish ahead of Stanford's Jason Dunford (53.59). Australia's Sam Ashby completed the top three in 55.26.

Women's 100 backstroke
Australia went 1-3 in the event as Meagen Nay won in 1:02.18 and compatriot Emily Seebohm, 15, claimed third in 1:02.44. Japan's Tomoyo Fukuda split the difference in 1:02.41.

Women's 200 butterfly
Stanford's Elaine Breeden stopped the clock in 2:13.88 for the women's 200 fly win as she held off a pair of Japanese teenagers. Chise Hosake, 15, earned second in 2:14.19, while Kanako Miyabe, 17, placed third in 2:15.87.

Men's 200 IM
Teenagers ruled the men's 200 IM as Japan's Yuma Kosaka, 17, won in 2:04.75. Australia's Stephen Parkes, 18, finished second in 2:06.12, while Japan's Yuya Horihata, 16, wound up third in 2:07.39.

Women's 400 freestyle
Japan's Tomoe Ono, 17, took home the middle distance crown in 4:12.21, while Ashley Chandler of California placed second in 4:14.10. Australia's Lorren Sellwood, 17, rounded out the top three in 4:15.49.

Men's 50 freestyle
In the men's splash-and-dash, Australia went 1-2 with Eamon Sullivan upending Matt Targett, 22.45 to 22.51, for the title. Stanford's Jason Dunford finished third in 23.09.

Women's 200 breaststroke
World record holder Leisel Jones swept the breaststroke events, as usual, with a 2:26.00 – a time that still ranks among the top 10 in the world this year. Teammate Sarah Katsoulis picked up second in 2:28.95, while Laura Sogar of the United States placed third in 2:31.77.

Men's 200 backstroke
Australia's Daniel Arnamnart easily won the men's 200 back in 2:02.94. Stanford's Hongzhe Sun took second in 2:04.24, while Cory Chitwood of the United States placed third in 2:04.76.

Men's 1500 freestyle
The United States broke through in the men's distance event as Joe Kinderwater (15:44.37) and Robert Looney (15:56.39) went 1-2 for the Americans. Meanwhile, Japan's Masatoshi Aso, 17, placed third in 15:58.32.
