Third-Ranked Recruit in Class, Kyle Gornay of Redlands, Commits to California

YUCAIPA, California, October 30. ONE of the top swimmers in the Class of 2014 just made his commitment to the California Golden Bears as head coach Dave Durden continues to put together a special class.

Redland’s Kyle Gornay, who is ranked third in the Class of 2014 by CollegeSwimming.com, is also the top recruit in the State of California as the Golden Bears kept up with Stanford in terms of keeping local talent home.

Gornay, who made his commitment known via Facebook and Twitter, adds to a deepening backstroke group at California as he sports a 47.04 in the 100-yard backstroke from the CIF-SS Division I Championships in May. He also owns a 1:44.57 in the 200-yard back and a 1:34.99 in the 200-yard free as he’s a legitimate short course yard prep star.

Gornay also has some serious versatility to his game. He owns a 46.83 in the 100-yard fly, and a 1:47.49 in the 200-yard IM, providing Durden with plenty of choices in terms of what events to put Gornay in next year.

Durden is killing it on the recruiting trail. With Gornay committing, the Golden Bears now have two of the top 10 recruits in the class with No. 6 Nick Silverthorn also pledging. Cal also picked up No. 13 Connor Green and No. 14 Matt Whittle in the top 15.
