Theresa Michalak To Join University Of Florida

GERMANY, November 26. THERESA Michalak, who won silver in the 100m breaststroke and gold in the 100m IM, 200m IM and 400m IM at the German short course nationals and is part of the German team for short course European Championships next month, is going to become a Florida Gator.

The 21 year old from Halle, Germany received a full scholarship and is going to be studying sports science at the University of Florida in Gainesville for the next four years. She is going to train under coach Gregg Troy who already led Ryan Lochte and Elizabeth Beisel to Olympic glory.

“Theresa rounds out our women’s class from the standpoint that she swims lots of different things,” Troy said. “She is a tremendous medley swimmer with great speed. She is a fantastic breaststroker and can swim on all five relays. She is an extremely versatile athlete, and is a real plus for us in the future. We’re looking forward to her competing with the Gators.”

Michalak told a local newspaper that her desire to get better was part of her move to USA. However, another reason might be that things between IM specialist Michalak and her coach Frank Embacher have not been going as well as they would like to. But the swimmer still appreciates her coach. “He got me to the Olympic Games, I wouldn’t be who and where I am today without him.”
