The Morning Swim Show: Maarten van der Weijden Wins 25K; Preview of NCAA Women’s Water Polo Championships With Adam Krikorian and Dan Smith

PHOENIX, Arizona, May 9. FRIDAY'S edition of The Morning Swim Show gets viewers ready for this weekend's exciting matches at the Women's NCAA Water Polo Championships.

Host Peter Busch begins the show by mentioning Dutch open-water swimmer Maarten van der Weijden, who won the men's 25K race at the FINA World Open Water Championships on Thursday. Then, he runs down some of the exciting events coming up this weekend, including the NCAA water polo meet and the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix in Florida.

The rest of the show is devoted to water polo. In Reaction Time, Busch talks to UCLA head coach Adam Krikorian, whose women's team is playing toward their fourth straight national title this weekend. Krikorian talks about the team's undefeated record, rival Stanford and playing against the USA national team.

Dan Smith, the chair of the NCAA women's water polo committee and associate athletic director at Loyola-Marymount University, talks about the process of selecting the eight teams which are playing this weekend. He also talks about the dominance of the California schools and the atmosphere in Palo Alto before the opening matches.

The show concludes with a preview of a photo spread in the June issue of Men's Journal that features members of the men's USA water polo team.
