Texas’ Yeo Named Big 12 Female Swimmer of the Month

AUSTIN, Texas, January 23. TEXAS senior Joscelin Yeo (Republic of Singapore) was named the Big 12 Swimmer of the Month for January, the Big 12 Conference announced this afternoon.

Yeo, a three-time Olympian for the Republic of Singapore, also earned the honor in November of 2001 during her junior season.

Yeo helped lead seventh-ranked Texas to a 196-104 victory over No. 22 Texas A&M on Sunday, Jan. 19, while also providing top performances against top-ranked opponents Florida and Georgia.

Against the Aggies, Yeo won the 100- and 200-yard freestyle with times of 51.00 and 1:50.87, respectively, while also adding the top mark in the 100-yard butterfly with an NCAA consideration time of
54.73.

Earlier in the month, Yeo posted five NCAA consideration times at No. 2 Florida and No. 3 Georgia. In a 176.5-117.5 loss to Georgia on Jan.9, Yeo won the 50-yard freestyle (23.28) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.64), while placing runner-up in the
200-yard breaststroke (2:16.69). Two days later in Gainesville, Fla., Yeo placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.15) and the 200-yard medley relay (1:41.70).

Texas has claimed all three women's Big 12 Swimmer of the Month honors for the 2002-03 season. Sophomore All-American Sarah Wanezek (Brookfield, Wis.) was the recipient of the award for the months of November and December.

The University of Texas women's swimming and diving team will return to action on Friday, Jan. 31 when it hosts Arizona, Arizona State and SMU at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center. Friday's competition is scheduled to start at 5 p.m., while Saturday's action
will begin at noon.
