Texas Lands Three on ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

AUSTIN, Texas, May 23. MEMBERS of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) have selected Texas women's swimming and diving seniors Kathryn Kelly, Jessica Livingston and Hee-Jin Chang to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team in the women's at-large university division.

Kelly (Longwood, Fla.) earns her second consecutive selection to the first team for district six, and Chang (Seoul, South Korea) and Livingston (The Woodlands, Texas) have earned second-team selections. The women's at-large division features student-athletes competing in swimming and diving, tennis, golf, bowling, rowing, fencing, field hockey, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing and water polo.

The district six university division includes NCAA Division I schools in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, Mississippi and Arkansas. As a first-team all-district selection, Kelly advances to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. Kelly was a second-team selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team as a junior.

A public relations major, Kelly wrapped up her Texas career as a four-time All-American after placing sixth in the one-meter diving event at the 2009 NCAA Championships. She also captured the one-meter event at the 2009 Big 12 Championships. The Big 12 Conference selected Kelly as its Women's Diver of the Year in 2008 after she registered two All-America finishes at the 2008 NCAA Championships.

An advertising major, Livingston finishes her UT career as a five-time All-American with three top-five finishes in the platform diving event at the NCAA Championships. Livingston took fourth in the event at the 2006 NCAA Championships before capturing the event at the 2007 NCAA Championships. After redshirting during the 2007-08 season, Livingston returned for her final campaign and placed second in the platform event and fourth in the three-meter event at the 2009 NCAA Championships.

A government major, Chang ends her UT swimming career as the school-record holder in the 50-yard freestyle, the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays and the 200-yard medley relay. Chang landed All-America finishes in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events at the 2009 NCAA Championships and claimed the 50 freestyle at the 2009 Big 12 Championships. Chang competed in her second Olympiad last summer when she represented her native South Korea in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle events at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

To be nominated for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve on their respective teams with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. Student-athletes must reach sophomore athletic and academic standings at their current institution to be eligible.
