Texas Invitational: Texas Relays Threaten American, U.S. Open Records

AUSTIN, Texas, December 6. THE final night of swimming at the Texas Invitational held in Austin featured a pair of Texas relays taking runs at American records.

Women's 1650 freestyle
Ashley McCleery claimed the distance free title in 16:08.63 with Texas' Susana Escobar finishing second in 16:10.70. Texas' Natalie Sacco placed third in 16:15.13.

Men's 1650 freestyle
Texas' Michael Klueh won the race in 14:44.23, while Arizona's Jean Basson took second in 14:52.20. Texas' Jackson Wilcox touched third in 14:57.23.

Women's 200 back
Arizona's Ana Agy (1:52.47) and Jenny Forster (1:52.50) took first and second, while Texas' Kathleen Hersey placed third in 1:53.55.

Men's 200 back
Arizona went 1-2 in the event with Jake Tapp (1:41.54) and Bryan O'Connor (1:41.55) battling for the title. Texas' Hill Taylor finished third in 1:42.80.

Women's 100 freestyle
Arizona's Justine Schluntz won in 47.80, while Texas' Karlee Bispo (47.96) and Hee-jin Chang (48.17) captured second and third.

Men's 100 freestyle
Texas' David Walters (42.13) and Jimmy Feigen (42.91) placed first and second, while Arizona's Jordan Smith took third in 42.99.

Women's 200 breast
Sun Devil Aquatic's Adriana Marmolejo grabbed the title in 2:09.88, while Arizona's Julie Stupp (2:10.00) and Annie Chandler (2:10.55) rounded out the top three.

Men's 200 breast
Arizona swept the podium with Marcus Titus (1:55.92), Jack Brown (1:56.45) and Thomas Cole (1:57.32) placing 1-2-3.

Women's 200 fly
Texas' Kathleen Hersey touched first in 1:53.97, while Arizona's Alyssa Anderson (1:55.92) and Texas' Leah Gingrich (1:56.22) placed second and third.

Men's 200 fly
Arizona's A.J. Tipton hit first in 1:42.48, while Wisconsin's Scott Rice finished just behind in second with a 1:42.53. Texas' Ricky Berens wrapped up third in 1:42.74.

Women's 400 free relay
Texas' team of Karlee Bispo, Hee-jin Chang, Katie Riefenstahl and Kathleen Hersey scared the U.S. Open record of 3:11.34 with a swift time of 3:11.82. Arizona's Justine Schluntz, Lara Jackson, Anna Turner and Genevieve Konicke placed second in 3:13.64. Arizona's B team of Lindsey Kelly, Emma Darlington, Ana Agy and Taylor Baughman placed third in 3:17.64.

Men's 400 free relay
Texas' foursome of Ricky Berens, Jimmy Feigen, Ryan Verlatti and David Walters took a run at the American record of 2:49.80 with a winning time of 2:50.49. Arizona's Jordan Smith, Ryan Richardson, Jake Tapp and Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or touched second in 2:52.86. Texas' B team of Scott Jostes, Peter Jameson, Benjamin Van Roeckel and Jonathan Jackson took third in 2:54.98.

Women's tower diving
Texas' Jessica Livingston (320.20), Houston's Lacey Truelove (277.00) and UCLA's Tess Schofield (245.60) made up the top three in the women's 10-meter event.

Men's tower diving
Texas swept the top three as Matt Cooper (462.50), Drew Livingston (389.30) and Mike Wong (314.65) went 1-2-3.
