Texas A&M vs. Harvard

BOSTON, Massachusetts, November 11. THE No. 18 ranked Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team took a dual meet victory over against Harvard 140-120 Friday in Boston, Mass.

A&M, which led by only eight points at the first diving break, came back to take a 20-point victory with seven individual wins and two relay top finishes.

"We brought them together and looked them in the eye and we challenged them," said A&M Head Coach Jay Holmes. "We wanted them to be invested in every race. They did a great job of responding."

Junior swimmer John Dalton led the Aggies with two individual wins as he touched first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.43) and the 100 yard freestyle (45.38) events.

Dalton also swam the second leg in the 4 x 400-yard freestyle relay that took first in the last event of the evening. Sophomore Henrik Lindau, sophomore Kyle Troskot and senior Boris Loncaric swam the other three legs of the relay with Dalton.

The Aggies started off on a good note with a win off the bat in the 400-yard medley relay. Senior John Ariens, senior Amini Fonua, Lindau and Troskot made up the winning relay squad that touched first in 3:21.50.

Junior distance swimmer John McClure had a pair of second place finishes in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:01.30) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:37.43).

Holmes said that McClure's performance was impressive against a Harvard program that is built on distance swimming.

"I thought John McClure had his best meet since he's been here," Holmes said. "He rose to the occasion and did a great job in both of his races."

On the diving boards, the Aggies were without senior divers Cam McLean and Grant Nel, but sophomore diver Hayden Jones stepped up and took first in the 1-meter springboard event with a score of 349.57.

Also taking individual wins for the Aggies were Loncaric in the 200-yard (1:50.32) and 100-yard (48.63) butterfly events, Ariens in the 100-yard backstroke (50.53) and sophomore Paul-Marc Schweitzer in the 200-yard backstroke (1:50.16).

The Aggies return to the pool tomorrow to face Boston University in Boston, Mass.
