Terry Horner Wins 1-meter Title at Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships

PASADENA, California, July 24. TERRY Horner (Longwood, Fla.) captured his first national title with a victory on 1-meter at the Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships Wednesday at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center.

Horner scored 360.80 points, nearly 20 points ahead of second-place Landon Marzullo (Columbus, Ohio), who took the silver medal at 341.55. Horner previously had placed as high as second on 1-meter at the national championships, finishing as runner-up at both the 2007 and 2008 spring national championships.

Marzullo's Indiana Diving teammate Taylor Roberts (Aurora, Colo.) finished third with 334.60 points, just ahead of Purdue University's David Colturi (Sylvania, Ohio), who scored 332.55 points for fourth.

Women's 3-meter competition also kicked off Wednesday. Although the 2008 Olympic team members were permitted to advance directly to the weekend finals, Nancilea Foster (Conroe, Texas) opted to dive in the semifinals and led the field with 306.75 points. Ashley Karnes (Bloomington, Ind.) was second with 289.05, and Lindsay Weigle (Bloomington, Ind.) was third at 280.10. The top 12 divers advanced to the finals, and Foster's Olympic teammate Christina Loukas (Riverwoods, Ill.) also plans to dive in Saturday's finals.

The Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships run through Sunday, July 27. Thursday's competition begins at 3 p.m. and features men's 3-meter quarterfinals and semifinals and women's 1-meter semifinals and finals.
