Telkom South Africa Level Three Championships: Day Two

EAST LONDON, South Africa, March 13. AFTER setting an A-Qualification time in the 400m Freestyle for the Olympic Youth Games on Friday night at the Telkom Level 3 National Swimming Championships in the Joan Harrison Pool in East London, Le Clos decided he was not done yet. Tonight Le Clos also qualified in the 200m Butterfly.

But Le Clos was not alone in showing off fine form. Murray McDougal, who like Le Clos is no stranger to international competition being a multiple African Junior Championships Gold Medalist in 2009, qualified in the 100m backstroke with a new SA Age Group record of 57.07sec. Both Le Clos and McDougall train with Graham Hill at the Seagulls club in Durban.

There were more records on offer in the ladies 50m breaststroke and 200m freestyle. Taryn Mackenzie of Central Gauteng broke the SA Age Group Record earlier in the day during the heats of the 50m Breaststroke for women in the 16 years age group.

Kayla Ferreira of Northern Tigers set a new SA Age Group record in the 200m Freestyle.

The Telkom Level 3 National Swimming Championships serve as the qualifiers for the Olympic Youth Games. After the Championships in East London, Swimming South Africa will be presenting a Squad to SASCOC who will then make the final Team Selection.
