“Take Care Of Your Family First,” Advises Gregg Troy in SwimmingWorld.TV Video From ASCA Clinic

LAS VEGAS, Nevada, September 19. GREGG Troy has amassed much success in his long tenure as coach, but one thing he's regretted not doing is taking an occasional break to clear his head and devote uninterrupted time to his family.

In the first part of this four-part video of a speech Troy gave at the 2012 American Swimming Coaches Association's world clinic this month, Troy said every coach, no matter what level, should take a full weekend away from the pool. It would allow the coach to keep other aspects of their lives in balance — family, friends, etc. — and prevent the possibility of undue stress and burnout.

In part four of the speech, Troy talked more about the importance of taking that time off, admitting it was something he had never done. But he advises coaches to turn off phones, go to a movie or the beach, and completely remove themselves from the pool deck.

More videos are being uploaded from the ASCA clinic, and we invite you to peruse our list of speeches, talks and interviews on our ASCA landing page.
