Swimming World Throwback Thursday Video: Michael Phelps Talks Of “Final Swim On American Soil”

PHOENIX, Arizona, April 17. ANYONE who followed the 2012 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials remembers Michael Phelps saying the 100 fly final was his last race on American soil.

That statement will be rendered moot next week when he races at the Arena Grand Prix in Mesa, Ariz., officially kicking off a comeback campaign that is likely to bring the Greatest Olympian Of All Time back to Omaha in 2016.

SwimmingWorld.TV was at the press conference with Phelps and coach Bob Bowman in 2012 when he talked about seemingly never racing at the Olympic Trials again. It seems the term “never say never” is very relevant in this instance.

Our Throwback Thursday video is that final press conference from Omaha in 2012 in its entirety.
