MESA, Arizona, April 24. IT’S only fitting that the first race for Michael Phelps after coming out of retirement would be the same one that marked what he called in 2012 his “last (race) on American soil.”

For our Throwback Thursday video, let’s look back at that 100 butterfly final at the 2012 Olympic Trials, in which he beat all challengers to the wall to set up for defense of his 2008 Olympic title.

In last week’s Throwback Thursday video, we showed you the press conference in which Phelps lamented that he was done racing in the United States.

Until today, the race you will see in the video player below was the last time Americans got to watch Phelps race in the 50 United States.
