Swimming World Selects College Swimmers of the Week

PHOENIX, Arizona, January 18. SOPHOMORE Kate Zubkova of Indiana University and freshman Joe Kinderwater of the University of North Carolina have been named Swimming World's College Swimmers of the Week.

The award is an extension of the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week (NCSW) honors given out by CollegeSwimming.com across three divisions of NCAA competition.

Zubkova and Kinderwater earned Division I NCSW kudos, while Ashley St. Andrew of Wayne State and Mike Lewis of Tampa were the Division II winners. Ellen Ramsey of Williams and Alex Sweet of Washington and Lee claimed Division III accolades.

After sitting out a semester due to NCAA rules, IU transfer Zubkova claimed six first-place finishes and helped set three pool records as Indiana claimed the Irish Invitational. Her best time came with an A-cut and pool record in the 100 back when she clocked a 54.18.

Kinderwater, on the other hand, led UNC to wins over Clemson and Rutgers. Kinderwater posted a 9:07.17 in the 1000 free to become the second-best Tar Heel in the event behind only Chip Peterson.
