Swimming World Names College Swimmers of the Week

PHOENIX, Arizona, December 13. JUNIOR Hannah Galey of Columbia and junior Tim Whitbeck of Grove City College have been named as Swimming World Magazine’s College Swimmers of the Week.

The award is an extension of the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week (NCSW) honors given out by CollegeSwimming.com across three divisions of NCAA competition.

Galey and Phil Scholz of Loyola College won the Division I NCSW honors, while Jennifer Esposito of Long Island and Marty Wahle of Minnesota State – Mankato grabbed the Division II awards. Whitbeck, along with Kaitlyn Orstein of Washington and Jefferson, garnered Division III kudos.

Galey led Columbia to a 184-114 triumph over Penn. Against Penn, Galey won the 50 free (24.11), 100 free (51.60) and helped the 200 free and medley relays to wins.

The next day, Columbia knocked off Wagner, 183.5-75.5, as Galey helped the 200 free and medley relays to wins again, while winning the 200 free (1:53.76) and finishing second in the 500 free (5:12.23).

Whitbeck paced Grove City in a 151-123 conquest of Hiram. During the event, Whitbeck touched first in the 50 free (23.61) and set a pool record with a 53.66 in the 100 free.
