It was a beautiful day in sunny Arizona for SwimJitsu to come to town. The Phoenix Swim Club hosted the event at the Phoenix Country Day School Aquatic Center on Saturday June 20th for kids and parents alike. The event proved to be a great success with the first two waves (each wave is a two hour session) reaching max capacity (150 participants).

For two hours kids and parents attempted the various challenges in an attempt to become a SwimNinja. Challenges included the popular obstacle course, a stealth training rope course, sprint training, and an obstacle path of ninjas.

While the obstacle course is the main highlight of the SwimJitsu movement long lines also existed for a chance to race around the ninjas hanging out in the pool. Excited kids grabbed their friends to jump in the various lines in an attempt to race each other at the various challenges. Parents also got in on the action racing their children and having fun in the water.

SwimJitsu is an obstacle course that includes a series of challenges that swimmers must overcome. Once a swimmer completes the challenges they become a SwimNinja.

Beginning as a partnership between USA Swimming and the North American Sports Group (NASG) SwimJitsu is an attempt to introduce kids to the sport of swimming in a more unique and fun way. The aim is to show that swimming can be a fun activity for all and to help encourage kids to join swim teams.

Not only is SwimJitsu an attempt to introduce kids to the sport of swimming through USA Swimming’s Swim Today initiative, but it is also part of a movement to reposition swimming as the #FunnestSport.

This is just one of the videos, clubs can put on their website

SwimToday.org got its official launch this week in a nationwide campaign to get more people in the water. Leaders in the industry joined forces with USA Swimming to market the sport with never-seen-before assets! All materials benefit swim clubs! In other words, the campaign is for the benefit of clubs to get more swimmers to join!

Swimming membership in year-round teams increased 37 percent since 2008 and the industry wants to keep it growing. Why is swimming growing at such an immense rate? FUN is the number one reason that 99 percent of swim parents stated why their kids swim and swimming tops every category most important to parents. Grow your club today!

U.S. Olympic gold-medalist Missy Franklin has joined the movement as GrandMaster to help encourage kids to hit the water and see swimming as a fun activity.
