Swedish Short Course Championships Conclude With Two More National Records

JONKOPING, Sweden, November 25. WITH Sweden's own Therese Alshammar away in Brazil grabbing a $100,000 payday, the rest of her compatriots still lit up the pool during the Swedish Short Course Championships held in Jonkoping. Gabriella Fagundez and a men's freestyle relay both dropped national record times to end the meet.

Fagundez added the women's 800 freestyle national record to her 400 free standard set two days ago with a 4:03.97. This time, she eclipsed a much older record with a winning time of 8:25.72. That performance smashed the 8:30.72 set by Malin Nilsson in February of 1995.

The second Swedish record fell in the final event of the meet – the men's 400 freestyle relay. The SK Neptun contingent of Pontus Flodqvist (50.31), Petter Stymne (47.58), Stefan Nystrand (45.85) and Peter Edvardsson (48.90) clipped the record with a time of 3:12.64. That readout wiped out the 3:13.67 set last year almost to the day on Nov. 26.

Individual event wins for the women came from Petra Granlund (200 fly – 2:12.42), Stina Gardell (200 IM – 2:14.36), Ida Marko-Varga (100 free – 54.36), Hanna Westrin (100 breast – 1:07.01) and Anna-Karin Kammerling (50 back – 28.24).

Meanwhile, the men were represented with wins from Christoffer Wikstrom (200 free – 1:47.86), Simon Sjodin (400 IM – 4:18.54), Lars Frolander (100 fly – 52.71), Jens Petersson (100 back – 55.26) and Per Nylin (50 breast (27.99).
