PHOENIX, Arizona, April 5. IN 1980, Susan Rapp was one of hundreds of U.S. Olympians sitting at home in the wake of a boycotted Olympics. In 1984, she rebounded and won silver in the 200 breast at the Los Angeles Olympics and made her third Olympic team in 1988.
Twenty years later, Rapp is now Susan von der Lippe, a 42-year-old wife and mother of two. She has also qualified to swim two events at the 2008 Olympic Trials in Omaha.
In the lively Swimming World Radio interview that appears on page 31 of the April issue of Swimming World, von der Lippe talks about her experiences as an Olympian, and remarks on the changes made in breaststroke in the past 20 years. She believes some of the changes have helped her improve as a Masters swimmer.
Listen to von der Lippe talk about her expectations at the Trials, the support from her club and family, and whether it's possible to keep training for a chance to swim in the 2012 Trials.
