In his first Chinese National Championship meet since a three-month doping ban that was served without public knowledge, Sun Yang topped the men’s 400-meter free to move to third in the world rankings.

Sun turned in a winning time of 3:44.53 in the finale, moving to third in the world rankings.  Only Mack Horton (3:42.84) and David McKeon (3:44.28) have been faster this year.  This followed Sun’s earlier time in prelims of 3:48.60 that had put him 10th in the world rankings.  Li Yunqi finished second in the event with a 3:50.73 with Tong Yang placing third in 3:50.74.

Last May, Sun tested positive for a banned substance and subsequently served a three-month suspension before anyone even knew he had served it.  The suspension was made public in November, stunning the swimming community in the process.

Cao Yue topped the women’s 400-meter free in 4:05.86 to move to 10th in the world rankings.  Shao Yiwen placed second in 4:07.01 with Guojun Jun earning third in 4:07.34.

In semifinal action, Chen Xinyi led the way in the women’s 100-meter fly with a 58.24. Lu Ying earned the second seed in 58.64 with Liu Zige turning in a 59.46.  Ye Shiwen paced the women’s 200-meter IM semis with a 2:12.70, off her eighth-ranked season best of 2:11.50 from the BHP Super Series.

Lots of amount damage control needs to be asserted before people will feel joy for Sun Yang. His Australian coach is in big trouble with Swimming Australia too. All individuals associated with him appear tainted.

Jessica hardy tested positive in 2008 and served her ban. She managed to medal both individually and relays after her ban. Wtf…

Please stop speaking ill of Sun Yang. First, as for the doping ban, he was not the cheater but the victim. Actually CHINADA should bear the responsibility for the late update of its banned drug list. Even in June 2014, Trimetazidine was still legitimate on the CHINADA official website. So in fact CHINADA and Sun Yang’s doctor Ba Zhen was to blame. What’s more, I think the comeback must be a good start to Sun Yang himself. And I’m in faith that he can prove himself in Kazan and Rio.

Ya the Chinese swimming authorities (CHINADA) need to apologise to all swimming fans especially in China and Sun Yang for the blunder. This messed up is really a major setback and embarrassment for the authorities. The top guns should be axed and take responsibility over this scandal. The guy was swimming at a time of 14mins 48 sec in a local meet without competition of which the time is off from his personal best of 14 mins 31sec when he was foolishly medicated by his doctor. This is probably a conspiracy to rein a rebellious and’cocky’ Sun Yang to stay in line.
