PHOENIX, Arizona, May 28. WE hope everyone in the United States had a great Memorial Day weekend. Ryan Lochte was in Canada racing in the Mel Zajac International Meet, the first of a two-meet West Coast tour. Three of Lochte's four wins at the meet came in races of 200 meters: the 200 back, 200 IM and 200 free. He also managed to win the 100 free as well. Lochte will face stiffer competition later this week at the Arena Grand Prix in Santa Clara, California, so we'll see if the extra pressure to perform will bring faster times from Lochte.

Further south in Irvine, several stars from the Trojan Swim Club had some great in-season performances at the Speedo Grand Challenge. Most of those top swimmers will be representing Russia at the world championships, including Vlad Morozov, who put together a 21.78 in the 50 free, which is just six hundredths of a second slower than he swam last month at the Russian nationals, and a 54.40 in the 100 back. Yulia Efimova's 2:24.31 in the 200 breast was also a highlight, bumping her up to fourth in the world.

Kosuke Hagino and Daiya Seto had two great battles in the individual medleys over in Kanagawa at the Japan Open. Hagino finished first in the 200 IM with a 1:57.32 and Seto won the 400 IM in a season-best 4:10.90. These two will be Japan's hopes for medals in the individual medley events later this summer in Barcelona.

The roster of teams set to compete in the FINA water polo world league super final is now official, with the United States handily moving on to June's super final after winning the majority of the matches in the Americas region qualifying matches. Brazil was the other country to move on in the men's division, while Canada advances in the women's bracket. The super final tournament will serve as a warmup for teams competing in the world championships in July in Barcelona.
