Streamlined News: Tokyo World Cup Recap; High School State Meets; Ryan Lochte 90210 Cameo

PHOENIX, Arizona, November 6. HAPPY Election Day in the United States! As everyone awaits the polling results, we'd like to take a break from the media bombardment of analyzing red state/blue state results to bring you swimming news from around the world.

First up, we take you to Japan for a re-cap of the first night of finals at the Tokyo World Cup. Anthony Ervin of the United States turned heads when he won gold in the 100 freestyle, clocking a 47.09. The swim upset the Australian trifecta of Tomasso D'Orsogna, Cameron McEvoy and Kenneth To that monopolized the 100 freestyle podium in Beijing. Reigning World Cup queen Katinka Hosszu took command of the meet early by winning the 800 and 200 freestyle, the first two events for the women. She then added a 33rd gold medal to her collection with a win in the 200IM, after falling to China's Ye Shiwen in the event in Beijing. Hosszu is up to a remarkable $56 thousand in earnings.

The United States' Jessica Hardy was back on the podium in the 100 breaststroke, touching out Denmark's Rikke Moller Pedersen by mere hundredths with a 1:04.86. Following this performance, Japan's Daiya Seto, who has previously set the world cup record in the 400IM this circuit, commanded the distance medley early on, extending his lead to seven seconds at one point in the race. Along with gold, he bettered his own world cup record, nearly breaking the four-minute mark with a 4:00.02.

The Twittersphere is back and vocal, now that the Chinese government's social media restrictions are out of the picture. So what have World Cup fans been Tweeting about? Following the #FINAWorldCup hash tag, Maja Biton cleverly commented on the Katinka Hosszu's first day of finals by saying:

In other news, high school state results started rolling in this past weekend. Swimming World was at the Arizona Division 1 and 2 high school state meet on November 3, and saw a number of exciting races and breakout high school stars. One notable swim came from Amy Bilquist, a sophomore from Verado high school who clocked in at a 22.96 in the 50 yard freestyle. For on-demand races from the meet, go to SwimmingWorld.tv. For results from other high school state meets, click on the results channel on SwimmingWorld.com for the results from the Iowa girls and the Alaska boys and girls state meets.

In popular news, Ryan Lochte made his second prime-time television appearance on the CW last night. He had a cameo role on the teen soap hit 90210, where he played himself, and was filmed shirtless on a ropes course. He even made reference to his rival, Michael Phelps in the scene, saying “I'd love to race Phelps on this.” We can only wait to hear what will happen next for Lochte; in and out of the pool.

That concludes today's streamlined news. If you are of age don't forget to vote!
