Streamlined News: Paralympics Roundup; Jamie Patrick Braving Lake Tahoe

PHOENIX, Arizona, August 31. DAY two of the Paralympics is underway, and the world record assault continues. Jessica Long set the first record of the day with a 4:42.28 in the S8 women's 400 freestyle, then China's Pan Shiyun kept the record breaking going with a 29.49 in the men's S7 50 fly. Brazil's Andre Brasil, who already won silver in the 200 IM yesterday, blitzed the field in the 50 free in the S10 category, breaking his own world record with a blazing fast 23.16. And Canada's Ashley Mortimer won the S10 50 free in a world record time of 28.10, breaking her own mark. And as of this taping, they hadn't reached the halfway mark in today's session!

Among the highlights from yesterday's finals we didn't report on in yesterday's show include a 2:10.01 by Canada's Benoit Huot in the 200 IM for the S10 category. Huot had previously set the world record this past April at the Canadian Olympic Trials, and as you can see here, was overcome with emotion on the medal stand.

We'll have a recap of today's competition at the London Aquatic Center on swimmingworld.com once finals are complete.

Ultra-marathon swimmer Jamie Patrick is back at Lake Tahoe, two years after attempting a double crossing of the cold waters on the California-Nevada border. This time, Patrick is aiming to swim the circumference of the lake, which would be 68 miles. Patrick started his quest earlier this morning, and so far, the swim is going according to plan. The swim is estimated to take about 45 hours, and is even more treacherous considering it will be done at 6,225 feet above sea level.

Monday is Labor Day here in the United States, and Streamlined News will take a break on that day. We'll be back with more news on Tuesday from around the world. Thanks for watching and enjoy the holiday weekend.
