Streamlined News: Michael Phelps Visits Rio; Ian Thorpe Releases Autobiography

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 31. MICHAEL Phelps was in Rio de Janeiro this week to conduct a clinic on behalf of Visa, one of his sponsors. Phelps got into the pool with a bunch of young swimmers and showed them proper technique, and was probably the first time Phelps was in a pool since the London Olympics. The event was part of Visa's promotion of the Rio Games, which will be held in August of 2016. Phelps talked again about his plans for 2016, saying he could be an athlete in the Rio Olympics, but not in swimming.

Phelps continues to travel the world on his quest to not only play on the best golf courses in the world, but to also improve his golf game. This journey will be detailed in an upcoming episode of “The Haney Project” on the Golf Channel next year.

Ian Thorpe has an autobiography out now, and in it, the Olympic champion talked about dealing with depression and thoughts of suicide for two years from 2002 to 2004. The autobiography is coming out in the middle of Thorpe's attempt to salvage his comeback efforts, in which he failed to make the Australian Olympic team but is now training to make next year's world championship team.
