BRIDGEPORT – The top team in the land is once again Stanford University as the Cardinal dislodge the University of California-Los Angeles to take over at No. 1 in the Women’s National Top 20 rankings and highlight the Week 13/April 15 Women’s Varsity Polls released today by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA).

The top teams in two of the other three polls remain the same as Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Division III Top 10) and Connecticut College (CWPA Division III Top Five) hold on. In the CWPA Top 10 Poll, Indiana University and Princeton University move into a tie for the No. 1 position in the league rankings.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Big West Conference, Golden Coast Conference, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2015 Women’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 13)

Stanford University return to the top spot for the first time since the Week 5/February 18 rankings as the Cardinal garner 100 points to rate as the unanimous No. 1 selection in the Week 13/April 15 Women’s Varsity National Top 20 Poll.

The ascension to the top spot after a nearly two month stand at No. 2 comes about due to an 8-7 victory over formerly No. 1 ranked the University of California-Los Angeles over the weekend. UCLA’s run, which began in the Week 6/February 25 poll on the heels of a 7-6 victory in overtime against Stanford at the University of California-Irvine Invitational, comes to an end after a seven-week duration.

Stanford, which ranked at No. 1 in the Preseason through Week 5 polls after claiming the 2014 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship at the University of Southern California last season, leads a Top 10 which becomes an All-West Coast affair this week as Princeton University drops out of the upper echelon of the rankings.

Behind the Cardinal, UCLA (95 points) takes over at No. 2, while USC (91 points), the University of California (85 points), the University of California-Irvine (79 points), the University of Hawaii (74 points), Arizona State University (72 points) and San Jose State University (63 points) stick at No. 3-to-8 for another week.

The University of California-Davis (59 points) is the lone newcomer to the Top 10 this week as the Aggies bump up two spots to claim the No. 9 slot and drive formerly No. 9-ranked California State University-Northridge (56 points) back to No. 10.

Long Beach State University (50 points) starts the final 10 positions in the Top 20 by moving up one spot to take over at No. 11. Indiana University (44 points), which stood at No. 16 last week, rises four positions to claim title to the No. 12 berth after knocking off former No. 10 Princeton by a 13-12 final in sudden death overtime in the Garden State on Friday. Princeton (41 points), which defeated the University of Michigan 9-7 to set-up a potential three-way tie in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) standings, follows the Hoosiers at No. 13.

The University of the Pacific (33 points) stays at No. 14, with the University of California-Santa Barbara (30 points) and Michigan (24 points) both falling back to No. 15 and 16, respectively. Loyola Marymount University (19 points), San Diego State University (16 points) and Wagner College (8 points) retain the No. 17-to-19 berths.

Harvard University (5 points), which was tied with the University of California-San Diego at No. 20 last week, gains a new equal as the Crimson and Hartwick College (5 points) round out this week’s Top 20.

2015 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 13)

Changes are plentiful among the Division III teams this week outside of the No. 1 position the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (100 points) are once again the unanimous top choice among small college programs in the Week 13/April 15 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

Pomona-Pitzer, which tallied 96 points two weeks to gain sole possession of the No. 1 position over Whittier College before rating as a unanimous choice last week, continues to stand as the uncontested best in Division III.

The Sagehens’ position is unique for the Week 13/April 15 rankings as half the field is involved in ties for the spots in the Top Five.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (95 points) is the first team to improve its position as the squad assumes the runner-up position. Whittier (86 points) slides into a tie with Chapman University (86 points) at No. 3, while the trio of Connecticut College (73 points), the University of La Verne (73 points) and the University of Redlands (73 points) are in the midst of a rare three-way tie for the No. 5 spot.

2015 Women’s CWPA Top 10 (Week 13)

The race for the No. 1 seed at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship continues with no decisive winner yet as Princeton University and Indiana University move into a tie for the top spot in the Week 13/April 15 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 Poll.

A ranking of the league’s entire varsity membership (Division I/II/III), the poll’s No. 1 position has been traded between the Tigers (96 points) and Hoosiers (96 points) for most of the season with Indiana holding the spot four prior times (Preseason, Week 1, Week 4, Week 5) and Princeton previously claiming the berth nine times (Week 2, Week 3, Week 6, Week 7, Week 8, Week 9, Week 10, Week 11, Week 12).

The knot at No. 1 comes about due to Indiana defeating Princeton by a 13-12 final in sudden death overtime, the University of Michigan defeating the Hoosiers by an identical score and the Tigers defeating the Wolverines 9-7 to leave a deadlock at the top of the league standings with one weekend left to play and tiebreakers almost certainly implemented to break the tie for the top seed at the league championship tournament at Princeton on Friday-Sunday, April 24-26.

Michigan (93 points), which rated at No. 2 last week due to its victory over Indiana, slips to No. 3 this week to mark the final change in the Top 10.

Harvard University (84 points), Hartwick College (81 points), Brown University (75 points), Bucknell University (70 points), Mercyhurst University (65 points), George Washington University (60 points) and CWPA Division III Champion Connecticut College (55 points) once again complete the Top 10.

The Camels (100 points), who wrapped up a perfect CWPA Division III league regular season, claimed the No. 1 berth for the CWPA Division III Championship over the weekend at Grove City College and rolled through the championship field with victories over Monmouth College (18-4 W), the host Wolverines (12-7 W) and Washington & Jefferson College (13-10 W), leads a Top Five which reflects the order of finish from the CWPA Championship.
