Stanford Men’s Swimming Signs Three Top Picks

STANFORD, Calif., Nov. 26. THE Stanford men's swimming program has signed three student-athletes to letters of intent to study and compete on The Farm next season announced head coach Skip Kenney.

Andy Grant (Livermore, CA), Keenan Newman (Davis, CA) and Ben Wildman-Tobriner (San Francisco, CA) will join the Cardinal in 2003-04.

"This is a great recruiting class," said Kenney, "and our future is secure."

Andy Grant attends Livermore High School and is coach by Pat Avilla. Grant won two as a junior at the high school sectional championships, placing first in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. He also helped the 800 freestyle relay to a second place finish at Nationals in Florida. Grant swims club with San Ramon/Livermore Valley Aquatics where he is coached by Richard Thorton.

Kennan Newman attends Davis High School and is coached by Peter Motekaitis. He was the 2001-02 High School National Champion in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 55.74 and is a member of the 2002-03 USA Swimming Junior National Team. He is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and was tabbed a high school All-American in both swimming and water polo. Newman swims club with the Davis Aquadarts, coached by Stu Kahn.

Ben Wildman-Tobriner attends Lick-Wilmerding High School. He was the Independent High School National Champion in both the 50 and 100 freestyle. He is a NCS and Pacific Swimming record holder in his freestyle events and was a member of the USA Swimming Scholastic All-America Team. Wildman-Tobriner swims club with the Fog City Hammerheads who are coached by Matt Roberto.
