NORTHFIELD, Minnesota, November 5. KALE Zicafoose (Sr./Omaha, Neb./Westside) won the 100-yard backstroke, Sophie Pilhöfer (So./Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Visitation) touched home first in the 50-yard freestyle and Molly Spence (So./Tacoma, Wash./Woodrow Wilson) captured first in the 1,000-yard freestyle as Carleton competed against St. Olaf and Division II MSU-Moorhead at Northfield Middle School in the first scored team competition of the season.
The Knights ended up just behind the Oles and the Dragons in the team finish, as the Oles won the event with 123, followed by the Dragons at 103 and Carleton with 68 points.
Zicafoose recorded a time of 1:00.25 in winning the 100 back, and then finished second in the 50-yard backstroke and third in the 100-yard individual medley. She also swam on the 200-yard medley relay.
Pilhöfer, who joined Zicafoose on the 200 medley relay and also anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay, posted a 25.18 in the 50-yard freestyle. She ended second in the 50-yard breaststroke. Spence, meanwhile, narrowly won the 1000 freestyle in 11:05.27, edging out a MSU-Moorhead swimmer by 0.51 seconds.
The Knights are back in action tomorrow at the Cows, Colleges and Contentment meet. The swimming portion will take place at MSU-Mankato and the diving at UW-La Crosse.
