SPORTS PUBLICATIONS TO PUBLISH WATER POLO SCOREBOARD

EL SEGUNDO, CA – May 2, 2000 – Sports Publications and USA Water Polo announce today that Sports Publications will assume publication responsibilities for Water Polo Scoreboard. Beginning with the June/July 2000 issue, Sports Publications will publish and distribute Water Polo Scoreboard, the official publication of USA Water Polo. The title will continue to be circulated to the 28,000 USA Water Polo members on a bimonthly basis. The agreement provides that Sports Publications and USA Water Polo will cooperatively engage in advertising and licensing activities, long term planning, promotions, and special projects.
Sports Publications is a special interest publishing company that produces a number of magazines focused on aquatic sports. Current titles include Swimming World and Junior Swimmer, which targets all levels of competitive swimmers, SWIM Magazine, the official magazine of United States Master’s Swimming, and Swimming Technique, a magazine geared toward coaches and competitive swimmers.
According to Richard Deal, co-publisher and chief executive officer of Sports Publications, this agreement emphasizes a complete cooperative relationship between the two organizations. He states, “As a company we have been very much involved with the aquatic community for over 40 years and this is a perfectly natural extension of our existing activities. Our experience will not only facilitate publication of the magazine but also allows us to work with USA Water Polo in marketing and promotional activities.”
According to Bruce Wigo, Executive Director of USA Water Polo, “We’re very excited about the prospect of this new partnership, particularly in an Olympic year, which in and of itself is an exciting time. But we are also experiencing a dramatic surge in participation throughout the country. The growth of women’s water polo is particularly exciting and with the first W omen’s Olympic competition in September and the first NCAA Women’s Water Polo Championship in May of 2001, we see a great future for our sport and our partnership with Sports Publications.”
