PHOENIX, Arizona, February 7. THE official announcement of Ian Thorpe's comeback this week was just the latest in a long list of Olympians making a return to competition. With all these comebacks come interesting topics of debate.

How do these moves affect the public's interest in the sport of swimming? Are these athletes re-discovering a passion for the sport, or failing to discover any passion outside of the sport? And, I hate to even bring it up but what about the hot topic in sports these days, performance enhancing drugs? If athletes are able to go through long periods without testing, how can we not be suspicious in this day and age?
