Speedo Australia has today announced the re-signing of Australian swimming legend Grant Hackett as their newest ambassador.

This is a long standing relationship, with Speedo having sponsored Hackett throughout his swimming career. Grant’s sponsorship started with the brand in 1999, 16 years ago.

The brand has seen the star win all seven of his Olympic medals in iconic Speedo swimsuits, and is proud to be supporting Hackett on his journey to the Kazan World Championships & Rio Olympics in 2016.

“We’re thrilled to have Grant re-join Team Speedo and renew our relationship with one of Australia’s true swimming legends” said Graham Eyres, Speedo Pacific Brand Manager. “Speedo is about inspiring people to swim and this partnership is about connecting our brand with those that share our passion for water. We believe Grant is the perfect ambassador to recruit people back to the pool and we’re excited to see what he can achieve over the coming years”.

After an illustrious career in the pool that saw him become the first man in history to win four back-to-back World Championship titles in the 1500m Freestyle – and countless Olympic & Commonwealth medals for his country, Hackett retired from Australian swimming following the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

His most notable wins to date are Gold in the 1500m at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. He retired the master of the pool and was rewarded for his efforts by being named the first ever Australian Swimming Captain.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to once again be associated with such an iconic brand” Hackett said. “Speedo has helped the sport evolve for many decades in high performance, grassroots and for recreational swimmers, and I am looking forward to sharing the journey ahead with them.”

The sponsorship announcement closely follows Hackett’s remarkable results at the 2015 Australian Championships having only returned to the pool for 6 months after 7 years in retirement.

Whether it’s to swim competitively, for fitness or just to enjoy a leisurely dip, Speedo is about supporting everyone to get in the water and inspiring people to swim. Grant Hackett’s comeback is a great inspiration to swimmers everywhere.

We need a hyphen somewhere in this headline! This makes it look like they put him into retirement 🙂
