Abbey Weitzeil, the high school senior from Canyon Aquatics, lead off the 400 freestyle relay for her team at the Winter Junior National Championships in Federal Way, Washington. By the time she hit the pad, Weitzeil had posted a new American record and crushed the other lead-off swimmers with a time of 46.29. Her time beat out Simone Manuel’s mark by 3 tenths of second. Abbey Weitzeil is the third swimmer in history to set the 100 free American record from a relay lead off and she is the first swimmer to set an American record at the Junior Nationals Championships!
