Speedo Performance of the Week, Sept. 24, 2013

PHOENIX, Arizona, September 24. THE first meets of the college swim season in the United States took place last weekend, and we saw some big names do well in their college debuts. But it was a returning swimmer that stood out the most at the Cal Poly Invitational on Friday in San Luis Obispo.

Tyler Messerschmidt had to sit out the spring semester to improve his grades, meaning he could not contribute for the California Golden Bears at the NCAA championships. After a semester of summer school, Messerschmidt is back on the team, and he made his presence known in a big way in the 100 freestyle, posting a 44.52. With a lifetime best of 42.32 from a sectional meet last March, Messerschmidt is showing that he will be a major player for the Bears as a sophomore this season.

Congratulations, Tyler. You’ve earned our Speedo Performance of the Week.
