Speedo Performance of the Week, Presented by Pace Club: March 19, 2013

PHOENIX, Arizona, March 19. THE past week in the pool was ruled by some of the best 18-and-under swimmers in the United States, and it was not an easy task separating out the best performance from what turned out to be nearly 10 national age group records and a couple of close shaves on American records.

This week, our Speedo Performance of the Week goes to SwimMAC Carolina's 400 free relay and 400 medley relay swims at the Speedo Champions Series meet in Nashville, Tennessee. Jack Manchester, Michael Chadwick, Matthew Josa and Kyle Darmody had a stellar meet, beating their own national age group records they set last December at the junior national championships. In the 400 medley relay, their time of 3:13.70 dropped a full three seconds off the record, but it was the 400 free relay that stood out with a 2:56.15. Not only is it a national age group record for the 15-18 and 17-18 age groups, but it's the second-fastest 400 free relay ever swum by four high school-age swimmers. The fastest is the 2:54.43 Bolles swam to set the national high school record, and if the four from SwimMAC all went to the same high school, they would go down in history officially as the second-fastest high school relay of all time.
