Speedo Performance of the Week, Presented by Pace Club: Aug. 13, 2013

PHOENIX, Arizona, August 13. THESE days, when you think of the FINA swimming World Cup series, pretty much only one name comes to mind: Katinka Hosszu.

In 2012, she dominated the eight-meet circuit, winning dozens of medals, and more than $160,000 in prize money. The 2013 World Cup series began last week in the Netherlands then headed over to Berlin for some short course meters racing. Hosszu was ready to race, though for the most part she was racing the clock and not her rivals in the pool. Hosszu broke six world records, all of them in the individual medley events. She broke the world record in the 100 IM three times, the 200 IM twice and the 400 IM once. For that, she got $60,000 in world record bonus money, an additional $40,000 as the top point scorer in the European meet cluster and $14,000 in race prize money.

Hosszu, who we like to call the Hungarian Energizer Bunny, is one of the few swimmers who raced in the world championships to continue to get faster and post some amazing times at the start of this World Cup series, and for all those reasons, Katinka, you’ve won our Speedo Performance of the Week.
