Speedo Eastern Championships: Brittany MacLean Puts Together Another Strong Day

OTTAWA, Canada, February 21. THE last session of short course meter swimming came to a close at the Speedo Eastern Championships in Ottawa with Brittany MacLean posting another set of quick times in the age group heats.

Barbara Jardin claimed the women's 200 free title in 1:58.15, while Caroline Murray took second in 1:59.63. Andrea Kostecki placed third in 2:01.63. Jacqueline Keire, 15, posted a 1:58.86 to win the 15-and-under heat. Marc-Andre Benoit topped the men's 200 free in 1:50.86, in a touch-out triumph over Cameron Bailey. Bailey placed second in 1:50.88, while Zachary Fedak wound up third in 1:51.60.

Ashley McGregor raced to victory in the women's 100 breast with a 1:07.97. Tera Van Beilen finished second in 1:08.64, while Amanda Reason took third in 1:09.46. Warren Barnes snatched the men's 100 breast title in 1:02.19, while Baptiste Bujold placed second in 1:02.96. Gleb Suvorov rounded out the top three in 1:02.98. Liam Dyas, 16, won the 16-and-under heat in 1:02.77.

Brittany MacLean, 15, won the 15-and-under finale in the women's 200 IM with a 2:13.69. Lindsay Seemann copped the open title in 2:16.08, while Sarah-Jade Ranger (2:18.22) and Vanessa Treasure (2:18.96) completed the podium. Suvorov garnered his second podium of the night with a 2:02.72 to win the men's 200 IM. Ashton Baumann touched second in 2:04.07, while Kourosh Ahani claimed third in 2:04.75.

MacLean put up another fastest time with a 28.44 in the 15-and-under heat for the women's 50 back. Paige Miller snared the open title in 28.66, while Gabrielle Soucisse took second in 29.01. Vanessa Charron posted a third-place 29.22. Graham Hawes won the men's 50 back in 25.17, while Ryan Cockell (26.03) and Grant Harding (26.30) took second and third, respectively.

Katerine Savard touched in 59.94 for the win in the women's 100 fly. Victoria Poon claimed second in 1:00.13, while Tasha Truscott finished third in 1:00.53. Christopher Bezeau captured the men's 100 fly in 54.53, while Benoit took second in 55.27. Tim Ruse completed the top three in 55.54.
