Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships: Keith Beavers Finishes With Four Golds

TORONTO, Ontario, Canada, February 18. KEITH Beavers completed a stellar meet at the Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships with his fourth gold medal of the long course meet on Sunday.

Beavers claimed the 400 IM title with a time of 4:21.58 after winning the 100 back, 200 back and 200 IM throughout the weekend.

"I came into this competition in the midst of some hard training and feeling pretty tired," Beavers told Swimming Canada. "Considering all that, the performances here are pretty good. The 400 IM is the win I'm most pleased with of the four. I was feeling pretty rough going in. I have an outside shot in the 100 backstroke but the other three I think I can make the team on. In my training there are things we'll change after my performances here and we'll look to focus more on speed and power."

Other winners in men's competition were Julien Roy-Lavallee in the 100 breast (1:05:10), Joe Bartoch in the 100 fly (54.50), Matt Swanston in the 50 back (27.32) and Francesco Zuccaro in the 200 free (1:53.03).

In women's competition, Amanda Reason won her second gold of the meet with a win in the 100 breast (1:10.85), while Hilary Bell claimed the 200 free (2:03.16). Alexa Komarnycky touched first in the 400 IM (4:45.78), while Marie-Pierre Couillard (50 back: 30.34) and Alex Forrester (100 fly: 1:01.77) also picked up victories.
