South Metro’s Regan Smith Clips Alexandra Walsh’s 11-12 100 Back National Age Group Record

ROCHESTER, Minnesota, March 15. WELL, that didn’t take long. Just a few hours after Chelsea Piers’ Alexandra Walsh took down the 11-12 100-yard backstroke national age group record in Connecticut, South Metro’s Regan Smith came along in Minnesota.

After clocking a 55.90 in individual competition a the Minnesota Age Group Championships, Smith leadoff South Metro’s 400-yard medley relay with a strong 55.20 to take the record from Walsh. Earlier in the night, Walsh had posted a 55.31 in individual competition to break a tie between Kathleen Baker and Janet Hu for the mark.

27.16, 28.15

Smith has had a strong meet so far in Rochester. She won the 11-12 100-yard fly in 56.19 and the 200-yard free in 1:53.61. She still has the 50-yard back, 200-yard back and 50-yard fly on the docket.
