Social Media’s Role in Saving UNC-Wilmington Swim/Dive Captured in New Video

WILMINGTON, North Carolina, June 4. IN the days since the announcement that the men's and women's swimming and diving teams at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington earned a reprieve, a video has surfaced explaining the way social media helped save the Division I program.

Produced by digital communication company Huify, the video details the response the team received from celebrity swimmers and other college teams through UNCW's online petition, Facebook posts and Twitter messages. The video, featuring a few members of the UNCW swim team, claims that 8 million people were reached through all social media platforms in the two weeks between the announcement that the team was being cut to the day it was saved.

Sara Smith, who just wrapped up her sophomore year on the UNCW team, was part of the team at Huify that produced the video.
