Six-Star Jessica Schmitt Verbally Commits

SAN DIEGO, California, October 15. SWIMMING World six-star prospect Jessica Schmitt of North Coast Aquatics and Torrey Pines High made her decision recently on her college of choice.

Schmitt pledged her services to Dave Salo of the University of Southern California, and joins a quickly growing top flight class in Los Angeles.

"I am so excited about going to USC," Schmitt told Swimming World. "At first, I thought I wanted to leave California and experience something new. But, after taking all of my trips, I knew that going to USC just seemed right. Also, Dave Salo is a great breaststroke coach, and that drew me in as well."

Schmitt is an immediate impact recruit for Salo, who already would have placed in the B final in a pair of events at the 2008 NCAA Division I Championship. Schmitt owns top times in the 200-yard breast (2:12.16) and 400-yard IM (4:11.32). She also excels in meter events as her times in the 100-meter breast (1:11.12), 200-meter breast (2:27.38), 200-meter IM (2:18.93) and 400-meter IM (4:50.28) all clear the previous U.S. Olympic Trials cuts.

Schmitt joins five-star prospects Haley Anderson and Jordan Danny in the USC Class of 2009 as Salo continues to earn the pledges of strong recruits.
