Simone Manuel Claims Second 17-18 National Age Group Record at NCSA Junior Nationals

ORLANDO, Florida, March 22. ALL eyes were on the women’s 50 freestyle, as both Janet Hu and Simone Manuel had the chance to dip under the girls 17-18 National Age Group Record. Manuel was the top seed, but Hu, the former 50 freestyle NAG record holder, seemed prepared to maintain her 50 freestyle crown.

However, Manuel’s dynamite speed propelled her first to the 25 and she never looked back. She touched the wall first with a 21.70, just under the 21.82 record Hu set in December. Hu managed a respectable 22.27 for second in the finals.

Manuel adds this record to her new 100 freestyle National Age Group record set on the second night of finals at the NCSA Junior National Championships.
