Siena Adds Four Recruits

LOUDONVILLE, New York, December 15. – Siena swimming and diving head coach Greg Brown announced the signing of four recruits to matriculate to Loudonville this fall. Caitlyn Biagioli (Kings Park, N.Y./Saint Anthony's), Bethany Fried (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Sweet Home), Dena Kaliades (Stewart Manor, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) and Brittany Pavolko (Reading, Mass./Pittsfield) have all signed National Letters of Intent, officially making them Saints.

"I am immensely pleased with the signing of these four talented swimmers," Brown said. "I expect all four to make an immediate impact upon their arrival and prove to be beneficial to the further development of our program throughout their four years."

Biagioli, a native of King's Park, N.Y. was an All-League Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) selection and a New York State High School Qualifier in each of her four years at Saint Anthony's as a swimmer in the freestyle and backstroke events. In 2004 and 2005, Biagioli was a High School All-American nominee. In her senior year at Saint Anthony's, Biagioli was named captain of a team that went undefeated for the third-straight year. Biagioli also participated as a swimmer for Team Suffolk and was a USA Sectional Qualifier.

"Caitlyn brings a barrage of talent to our program, Brown said. "I am certain that her successes in high school with transcend into further accomplishments upon her arrival to Loudonville this fall."

Fried, a product of Sweet Home High School in Cheektowaga, N.Y., is a three-time N.Y. High School State Qualifier and has been a top-three finisher in Section 6 for five consecutive years as a competitor in the distance free event. Fried currently holds three school records, as Sweet Home's team captain. Fried was also the recipient of an ECIC Championship and as a member of SHAQ (Sweet Home AQuatics) USA swimming, she holds four district records.

"Bethany is a quick and resilient swimmer when she's in the pool," Brown said. "Her speed and flexibility will allow her to excel in the distance freestyle event and hopefully equate to victories for our squad."

Kaliades, from Sacred Heart Academy, is a three-time CHSAA champion in the 100-backstroke event, as well as a three-time New York High School State Qualifier. Kaliades is also a representative of the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Team as a member of Long Island Aquatics.

"Dena will come to Loudonville with a plethora of accolades under her belt," Brown said. "As a backstroker, she will be an immediate impact for our club and there is no doubt that she will be successful at the Division 1 collegiate level."

Pavolko, a competitor in the fly and freestyle events, was the 2005 Massachusetts State Champion in the 100 butterfly event on behalf of Pittsfield High School. A member of the Hampshire Regional YMCA team, Pavolko captured both the Western Massachusetts YMCA and the New England YMCA Championship. In 2006, Pavolko was named YMCA All-American in the butterfly event.

"As the 2005 Massachusetts State Champion, Brittany's resume speaks for itself," Brown said. "There is no doubt in my mind that she will be a tremendous success in the MAAC and will be a valuable commodity from the get go when she arrives in Loudonville this fall."
