Heading into the final night trailing in the overall team standings, Seton Hall fought its way back to win the men’s 2018 Big East Swimming and Diving Championship for the second straight year. On the women’s side, Villanova built an early lead that they would not look back on to clinch the title for the fifth straight year after a four-day competition at SPIRE Institute.

For the fifth-straight year, the Georgetown women finished as Big East runners-up, while the Villanova men finished second for the first time since 1992.

The last night of finals saw competition in the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 400 freestyle relay.

Women’s 1650 Freestyle

Villanova’s Caitlin Daday took the title in the women’s mile, finishing in 16:37.84, ahead of second-place Georgetown sophomore Cristine Barrett‘s time of 16:42.53.

Third place went to Seton Hall’s Jillian Calocino in 16:48.59.
