Scottish Nationals: Richard Shafers Downs Scottish Record, Lewis Smith Doubles

GLASGOW, Scotland, July 2. THE third night of long course racing at the Scottish Nationals produced a Scottish record in the men's 50 free.

Richard Shafers downed his Scottish record of 22.86 from earlier this month with a winning time of 22.63 in the men's 50 free. Rafael Munoz took second in 22.99, while Jake Scott placed third in 23.57.

Mireia Belmonte won the women's 200 fly in 2:08.14, off her sixth-ranked season best of 2:06.25 from April. Judy Ignacio touched well behind with a 2:10.34 for second, while Jessica Dickons finished third in 2:10.91.

Lewis Smith snagged the men's 200 IM title in 2:02.74, while Taki Mrabet finished second in 2:04.64. Conor Barrett came in third with a 2:06.29. Smith doubled up with an8:04.75 to win the men's 800 free. Martin Cremin (8:16.85) and Stephen Milne (8:22.71) completed the top three.

Sasha Matthews topped the women's 400 free in 4:14.51, while Claire Dawson touched second in 4:16.16. Aisha Thornton earned third in 4:18.25.

Michael Jamieson posted a 1:02.59 to win the men's 100 breast. Douglas Scott took second in 1:03.32, while Andrew Willis finished third in 1:03.53.

Katie Avramova won the women's 100 back in 1:01.46. Mercedes Peris (1:02.23) and Aisling Cooney (1:02.66) finished second and third.

Ryan Bennett captured the men's 200 back in 2:00.32, while Juan Miguel Rando snared second in 2:04.09. Craig McNally earned third in 2:04.66.

Georgina Heyn claimed the women's 50 breast in 32.16, while Marina Garcia placed second in 32.22. Kathryn Johnstone rounded out the top three in 32.69.
