The Sizzling Swede Sarah Sjostrom continued her strong season with a double on night one of the Swedish Nationals.

Sjostrom dropped a meet-record time of 1:55.94 in the women’s 200-meter free.  That swim cleared her own mark of 1:56.56 from last year, but was slower than her second-ranked time of 1:54.77 from the Bergen Swim Festival.  Louise Hansson touched second in 1:59.23 with Michelle Coleman snatching third in 2:01.51.

Sjostrom then won the women’s 50-meter back in meet-record time of 28.67.  That time cleared the 28.74 set by Coleman back in 2012, but is just off Sjostrom’s Swedish record of 28.22 from March.  Ida Lingborg took second in 28.89 with Magdalena Kuras placing third in 29.29.

Sjostrom also clocked a 53.56 100 free split as the second leg of Sodertorns’ fourth-place 400-meter free relay time of 3:54.27.  SK Triton won in 3:45.96.

Simon Sjodin downed the meet record in the men’s 200-meter fly with a time of 1:58.11.  That effort cleared the 1:58.32 he clocked a year ago. Markus Malm placed second in 2:03.88 with Viktor Bjork earning third in 2:04.76.

Erik Persson cleared the meet record in the men’s 200-meter breast with a 2:12.51.  That performance lowered his own mark of 2:13.43 from last year.  Gulliver Koch touched a distant second in 2:18.45 with Robert Palosaari placing third in 2:19.06.

Oscar Ekstrom topped the men’s 100-meter free in 50.79.  Christoffer Carlsen took second in 51.10 with Daniel Forndal earning third in 51.31.

Amanda Rutqvist won the women’s 200-meter breast title in 2:28.95 with Jennie Johansson touching second in 2:29.22.  Vilma Ekstrom rounded out the top three in 2:32.42.

Christopher Jedel won the men’s 1500-meter free in 15:46.87 with Simon Plato taking second in 16:10.10.  Victor Johansson wound up third in 16:13.15.

Rutqvust was an All- SEC and possibly All- America @ South Carolina recently. Think this was her first national title.

Everyone seems to think the Campbells will have a walk in the park in the 500100 frees but don’t count Sjidtrom IUT by any means– and that goes double in the 200 free.

And if she DON’T sweep the 50-100 flys it’ll be a bigger upset than Greece ponying up to the IMF and the EU!
